complete standards system for meteorological services The system has a
reasonable and comprehensive structure which covers the complete process of
meteorological decision-making, meteorological services to the public,
professional and specialized meteorological services (e.g. for the industry) as
well as services regarding lightning protection and others.
SMSC has participated in
standards development work, which includes the development of two national
standards, seven industry-sector standards and seven local standards. It has
also been engaged in the training of standardization experts.
THE BENEFIT OF KM STANDARDS
Standards provide ‘a scalable and
flexible framework for designing, planning, implementing and assessing
knowledge interventions that respond to an organisation’s environment and state
of readiness.
Along with the standard comes
systems which could increase the efficiency of managing knowledge. Standards
provides a common goal and guideline on the management of knowledge. Helps with
the understanding of the expectations of what an organisation can expect from
the knowledge manager.
The adoption of KM standards has
the potential to become a game changer for Knowledge Management professionals
providing a clear rationale for future KM Programs. Knowledge is recognised as
a resource, and standards specifies the expectations for the management of that
resource.
